When you think of individual counselling, you might think of a therapist sitting in a chair, writing notes, while the 'patient' lays on a bed, looking at the ceiling, talking about their feelings.

Individual counselling has come a long way and doesn't need to look like it does in the movies. Nor does it need to look like one specific structure. It can look different, based on your unique needs. I offer online individual counselling services as well as outdoor walk & talk therapy, forest therapy and educational consulting.

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING

Using a secure video platform, individual counselling sessions can take place online. Covid restrictions have shifted most in-person counselling to a virtual setting, in response to the continued need for counselling services during the pandemic. Even before the pandemic, online/virtual therapy was growing in popularity as it gives individuals more flexibility in when they can participate in counselling (e.g. over their lunch hour), they can participate in therapy from the comfort of their home (even in their pyjamas!), and it can support those living in rural areas, or those who live a far distance from their preferred therapy provider.

Also, research shows that online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy!

If meeting over video isn't for you, or if your internet connection is spotty, virtual counselling sessions can also take place over the phone.

FOREST THERAPY

Forest therapy, forest bathing, Shinrin Yoku, green therapy, eco-therapy - the concept goes by many names but is really very simple: we feel better after spending time in natural settings.

Intuitively we have always known that nature has incredible healing properties, and now science is starting to tell us why.

A typical Forest Therapy session takes place in small groups of about 6-10 people, over the course of 2-3 hours. Here, we spend intentional time in the forest participating in invitations that bring a mindful and deep connection with our natural environment.

I have received training from the Global Institute of Forest Therapy to become a certified forest therapy guide. Book a consultation if you would like to learn more about how you can participate in Forest Therapy.

CONSULTING

If you are a parent of a child with exceptional needs, navigating the education system can be challenging. Who do you talk to if your child is struggling in school? What resources are out there that can help? What can I do to help my child at home?

I offer complimentary 30-minute consultations with overwhelmed parents and guardians who are looking for a place to start helping their exceptional child. This consultation does not replace the support you or your child receives at school or from other community resources, nor is it therapy. Rather, it is a conversation to help point you in a direction that fits your family and your child's needs. Follow the link below to book your complimentary consultation.

WALK & TALK THERAPY

*for existing clients only*

Although grateful for the opportunities and flexibility that virtual therapy provides, there really is no replacing the experience of in-person counselling. When covid restrictions allow for outdoor gatherings, I offer outdoor or walk & talk counselling for existing clients. Here, we meet at an agreed upon location (typically a nature trail) and either walk & talk, or find a quiet space to sit and conduct our counselling session.

There are a few factors to consider with walk & talk/outdoor therapy such as what to do if we come across someone we know, making plans for inclement weather, and where it should take place.

If you are an existing client and you want to learn more about outdoor/walk & talk therapy, we can discuss at a future appointment!
