You spend every day helping your community, family and those you help be the best they can be...
…who is helping you?
Randi Micklewright
Holistic psychotherapist serving Oshawa, the Durham Region and across Ontario

It’s easy to lose your voice, identity and autonomy when working as a helper.
While striving to help others, we lose a little bit of ourselves, especially in the face of trauma, grief and burnout. We forget it’s actually our unique voice and identity that is our superpower that allows us to help others in a way that is authentically us.
I understand that reaching out for help can be hard. It takes courage to trust another person with the most vulnerable parts of yourself. That’s why I strive to create a safe and welcoming atmosphere where you can connect with the parts of you that are asking for healing.
Working together, we can find all the parts of you that you may feel you have lost along the way so that you can show up more authentically for yourself, your family, and your community.

What does counselling with me look like?
My approach to mental health and healing is holistic. I believe that healing takes place in the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of ourselves. Holistic counselling with me incorporates the body/mind connection, connecting with our inner wisdom, and connecting with nature to facilitate the healing process.
How can counselling take place?
I offer virtual (video or phone call) appointments for anyone living in Ontario. I also love to incorporate nature into the healing process, and offer outdoor appointments in a forest setting for those living locally in the Durham Region. Outdoor appointments take place at Chubtown Country Retreat in North Oshawa or at another agreed upon location in the community. Please reach out to learn more.

While working as a teacher and educational consultant for 15 years, I experienced first-hand how much of a toll it takes to be a helper.
I witnessed how diligently and passionately teachers, educational assistants, administrators and support staff worked through some of the most challenging circumstances they had ever seen in their career.

This is why I decided to go back to school and earn my Masters of Counselling - so I can help educators and helpers in a different way.
Because I have been there. I have worked in the education system during a pandemic. I have experienced trauma in the workplace. I have grieved the death of a student I have worked in an education system where we are constantly being asked to do more with less.
I also firmly believe that when we heal ourselves, the impact ripples to those around us. When we take the time to examine our values, our identities and process our hurt and grief, we can show up for ourselves and our communities authentically, inspiring others to do the same.

It is my commitment to support the mental health and well being of helpers, so that the impact of your healing will carry to your families, communities, and systems you work in.

“If you're working on changing bad habits,
unhealthy thought patterns, negative emotions, or toxic behaviours,
know that you are healing a part of this world by healing yourself.
Everyone around you will benefit and they will be served by your wholeness.
It's hard work sometimes and I know you want to quit, but this is the work that ultimately changes the world"
