FAQ: FAQ

HOW LONG DOES EACH THERAPY SESSION TAKE?

Traditionally, therapy sessions are 50-minutes in duration. I offer 50-minute and 75-minute appointments.
Some people find that 75-minute appointments fit their needs better, and some find that 50-minute appointments are better. We can discuss what best meets your needs during our consultation.

DO YOU ACCEPT EXTENDED HEALTH BENEFITS?

Many insurance companies cover psychotherapy as part of their extended health benefits. It depends on the specific plan that you have, if you have one.
It is highly recommended that you check with your individual benefit and insurance policy before engaging in therapy if you think psychotherapy services are covered.
Also, according to the Canadian Revenue Agency, receipts for psychotherapy can be submitted as medical expenses on your personal income tax.

HOW LONG WILL I BE IN THERAPY?

The therapeutic process is based on individual issues, needs and readiness for therapy. Therefore, the answer to this question is as unique as the individual.
Some people come for a few sessions and feel that they have achieved their goals, some people attend long-term as part of their regular health care practice.
This is typically discussed as time progresses in therapy and we determine whether your goals for therapy have been reached or not.

WHAT ARE YOUR RATES?

The rate for a 50-minute appointment is $155 + HST.
The rate for a 75-minute appointment is $225 + HST.
Payments can be made via credit card or e-transfer.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GO TO THERAPY?

When we meet for our initial 15-minute consultation we will discuss the frequency of appointments that will meet your goals. Typically, weekly appointments are most appropriate during the first few weeks of therapy, and then bi-weekly after that.

The frequency of your appointments may shift and change as time goes on and we discuss your progress towards your goals. You are always in control of when and how often you attend appointments. It is recommended that appointments are at the same day and time each week/bi-weekly.
